Double Glazing Angel

We supply and fit double glazing in Angel, from single windows to full house refits, doors, conservatories and skylights. This page is for local homeowners who want a clear picture of what we fit here, how we work and what to expect.

Our team fits double glazing across Islington, but each district has its own mix of homes and its own quirks. Below you will find the products that suit Angel homes best, what to check before you buy, and answers to the questions we hear most.

Every job starts with a free survey and a written, fixed quote. You can request your quote here.

Double glazing in Angel: what we see locally

  • Streets we work on: Duncan Terrace, Colebrooke Row and Charlton Place
  • Typical homes: Georgian and early Victorian terraces, with council estates and modern flats
  • Postcodes we cover: N1
  • Near: Camden Passage

Georgian terraces here need timber sashes with fine glazing bars, often with slim double glazing or secondary glazing. Flats near Upper Street and Pentonville Road benefit from acoustic glazing.

What We Fit in Angel

We cover every part of a glazing job, from the first measure to the last bead of sealant. Each service has its own page with more detail for this district.

  • Double glazing windows: uPVC, aluminium and timber frames in casement, sash, tilt and turn, and bay styles.
  • Doors: composite front doors, French doors, patio sliders and bifolds.
  • Conservatories: new builds, orangeries and roof swaps for rooms that are too hot or too cold.
  • Skylights: roof windows, flat roof lights and roof lanterns.
  • Secondary glazing: a slim inner pane for listed homes and flats where the main window must stay.

Choosing the Right Frame for Your Home

The frame should suit the age and style of the house. A good match looks right from the street and adds to the value of the home.

uPVC

uPVC is the most common frame we fit. It costs the least, keeps heat in well and needs no painting. It suits most post-war homes, flats and newer builds. Wood-grain and coloured foils give more choice than plain white.

Aluminium

Aluminium gives slim frames and large panes of glass. It is very strong and keeps its shape for years. It suits modern homes, rear extensions and wide doors. A thermal break inside the frame keeps heat in.

Timber

Timber suits period homes and streets where the look of wood matters. Modern timber frames come treated and factory painted. They need a fresh coat every few years, but they last a long time and can be repaired.

Why Registration Matters

Since 2002, replacement windows and doors in England and Wales have had to meet Building Regulations. You can prove this in one of two ways. Either a registered installer self-certifies the work, or you apply to building control yourself.

We are registered with FENSA. That means we can sign off our own work and send you a certificate. You will need this certificate when you sell or remortgage your home. Without it, a buyer's solicitor may ask for an indemnity policy or a building control visit.

When you compare firms, ask to see proof that they are registered with FENSA or Certass, or a similar scheme. Check the details on the scheme's website before you sign.

What to Check Before You Sign

A good installer will be happy to answer your questions. Before you sign, check these points:

  • The quote lists every window and door with its size, frame, style and glass.
  • It says who removes the old frames and waste.
  • Making good inside and out is included.
  • The guarantee is in writing, with clear terms on what it covers.
  • Payment stages are set out in the quote.
  • The fitter will register the work and send you the certificate.

We give a 10-year guarantee on frames, glass units, hardware and fitting. We have been fitting windows and doors for many years.

How a Job Runs

We visit, measure and talk through your options at a free survey. You then get a fixed, written quote. Once you accept, we make the frames to measure and book a fitting date. On the day, we protect your floors, fit the new frames, make good and clear up. The full process is on our how we work page.

Most homes take one to three days to fit. We work one room at a time, so your home is never left open overnight.

Conservatories and Roof Swaps

Many older conservatories in Angel have thin glass or polycarbonate roofs. They can be too hot in summer and too cold in winter. A conservatory roof replacement swaps the old roof for a solid, tiled or high spec glass roof. You keep the base and frames if they are sound, which saves time and cost.

A solid roof can turn the room into a space you use all year. Some roof swaps need building control sign-off, and we handle that for you.

Doors and Skylights for Local Homes

A new front door is often the first thing people notice about a house. Composite doors are our most popular choice in Angel. They have a solid core, a tough outer skin and a multi-point lock. They come in a wide range of colours and glass designs, and they need very little care.

At the back of the house, wide glass doors bring in light and open the room to the garden. Bifold doors fold back to leave a wide gap. Sliding doors use slim frames and take up no room when open. French doors suit smaller openings and period homes.

Skylights help in dark rooms, loft rooms and deep extensions. A roof window in a pitched roof is the simplest fit. Flat roofs take a fixed roof light or a roof lantern on an upstand. We check the roof, the rafters and the flashings before we cut any opening.

Each of these jobs has its own detail page above, with more on styles, glass and fitting.

What Shapes the Cost

We do not quote fixed prices online, as every home is different. The main things that affect your price are:

  • the number and size of windows and doors
  • the frame material, style and colour
  • the glass, such as triple, acoustic or safety glass
  • access, such as upper floors or tight side paths
  • repairs to sills, lintels or brickwork

After your survey, you get a written, fixed quote. It will not change unless you change the order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you handle conservatory roof replacements?

Yes. We replace old glass and polycarbonate roofs with solid, tiled or high spec glass roofs. First we check that the base, walls and frames are strong enough. If they are, we keep them and swap the roof only. If not, we explain what needs to be done. We arrange building control sign-off where the new roof needs it.

Does the certificate pass on when the home is sold?

Yes. The compliance certificate belongs to the property, not to you. When you sell, pass a copy to your solicitor along with your guarantee papers. A buyer's solicitor will ask for both. If you lose the certificate, you can get a copy from the scheme. Our guarantee also passes to the new owner for the rest of its term.

Can you fit acoustic glass?

Yes. Acoustic glass uses a laminated pane with a special inner layer, or panes of different thickness. This cuts the noise from traffic, trains and aircraft. It works best when the frame is well sealed too. We often fit it in bedrooms that face main roads. We can mix acoustic glass and standard glass in the same house.

Do you supply coloured or patterned glass?

Yes. We offer a range of obscure patterns for bathrooms, landings and front doors. We can also fit leaded designs, bevelled glass and tinted glass. For a period home, we can often copy an old stained glass design inside a new sealed unit. Bring photos to the survey and we will show you the options.

What happens to the old windows?

We take away all old frames, glass and waste on the day. Nothing is left in your garden or on the street. We send uPVC, glass, metal and timber to licensed recycling sites, so very little goes to landfill. If you want to keep any old frames or glass, just tell us and we will set them aside for you.
